The Lions finished fourth of fourteen teams yesterday at the Gabriel Richard Invitational at Hudson Mills Metropark.
The Lions were again shorthanded due to a non-Covid illness that has hampered the team for the past month. Despite the absence of Alex Jowett and Avian Valencia-Moore, the varsity Lions came prepared to race on the Hudson Mills course, a team favorite.
Steven Bosworth was the top finisher for the Lions, running 17:13, close to his personal best 17:11. The Boz went out fast, crossing the mile mark at 5:20.
Reiner Kandt finished second for the Lions, setting a new personal best for himself with his 17:24 finish.
Miles Albert, recently back from his bout with the flu, ran his second race of the season in the 17's, setting a new personal record of 17:53.
The Jeep wrangled a new personal best for himself with his 18:07 finish. JP finished fourth for the Lions.
Gavin Howell ran his second race of the year Saturday. His time of 18:30 was 1:37 faster than his homecoming time last Thursday. He is fast approaching his PR of 18:03.
Alex Mueller 18:38 and Nico Sobczak 18:46 rounded out the Lion varsity runners.
Chelsea, Manchester, and AA Gabriel Richard finished ahead of the Lions in the varsity race. South Lyon scored 142 points to finish fourth in the fourteen team field. South Lyon East scored 171 points to finish fifth.
Pinckney only ran three boys in the varsity race and did not earn a team score. Pinckney ran an additional eight boys in the JV race. Two of these boys won the JV race.
The JV race was exciting to watch because Lions Luke Heisel and Ethan Showek led the pack for most of the first two miles with a boy from Greenhills. By the end of the race, Luke and Etah remained strong and beat the Greenhills boy who finished ten second behind them.
However, two Pinckney boys who were lurking behind the frontrunners most of the race ended up winning the race with times of 18:09 and 18:23.
Luke finished third overall and first for the Lions in the JV race with his time of 18:29. Heisel set a new personal best by 03 and a new course best by 3:08. Ethan Showek finished fourth overall and second for the Lions in the JV race with his time of 18:32, a new season best by 1:21.
After Luke and Ethan, three Gabriel Richard boys finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh place to make a strong showing.
However, the Lions then took the next three places to round out the Lion top five scorers. Logan Duncan 18:50, Antonio Sobczak 18:51, and Logan Edwards 18:52 in eighth, ninth, and tenth place overall and 3-4-5 for the Lions.
The Lions won the JV standings with a team score of 34. Gabriel Richard was second with 42, and Pinckney was third with 63. South Lyon East earned 178 points to finish seventh. Twelve teams earned a JV team score and seven more teams ran but did not have enough runners for a team score.
